The project design was dictated by the desire to highlight the intrinsic qualities of the site and minimize the impact of new constructions. The expansion of the Lavigny hospital naturally takes its place by filling existing buildings including two elevations.
The main intervention is the addition of a new building bloc articulating the volume of the existing hospital. Positioned in this way, it defines the various outdoor spaces and enhances the chapel’s park while upgrading the main entrance. Also, this central location, organized around an atrium, minimizes internal circulations while ensuring optimal relationships between the different programs. The result is a compact and coherent whole.
Functional proximity of new programs with those of the existing hospital allows for optimal operational synergy. Spatial fluidity generated by new volumes and the simple structure of circulation spaces encourages exchanges. Particular attention has been paid to the meeting spaces.
