In the heart of the historic centre of Morges, the City Hall consists of two separate buildings: the City Hall itself and the “old Grenette and Casino” built between 1822-1827 by Henri Perregaux, an architect from the vaud region.
The City Hall comprises buildings dating from 1510 to 1620. Considered of national importance, it is ranked 1 among the historical monuments classification. The proposed architectural intervention remains minimal (generous volume recovery and re-roofing).
“The old Grenette and Casino” originally home to the grain market and rented the first floor to the private administration of the “Casino” (show and conference room). Of regional importance, the building is listed in rank 2 of the inventory of historical monuments. Subsequent interventions and assignment changes have damaged its spatial qualities and results notably in the annihilation of the double height of the old market grain. This intervention was made in favour of an office mezzanine that trivializes the grandiose inner potential.
It is in a deep restructuring context and in respect of built heritage that the office operates. It is a question of going back to the intrinsic architectural qualities of the building while gently stressing the contemporary work.

The guideline of the intervention can therefore be summarized as: clarify the connections between the different frames and refine the architectural qualities of these monuments. This is particularly the return of the double height of the corn exchange hall “old Grenette and Casino” which will represent to the world the Morges society: modern and full of history.
